Sketching in Vasa
Free event: Open air sketching with a local guide.
Who’s it for?
The event is designed for adults who like to draw outdoors. No particular skill level is required - just an enthusiasm to sketch, paint or take photos in a lovely setting. N.B. tuition is not provided - it’s just an opportunity to explore an inspiring area.
Start time: 10.30
End time: 3.00
Each sketching day will be open to a maximum of 8 people.
Location:
Vasa Koilaniou - my home village - nestles just below the tree line in the district of Limassol, Cyprus. It’s peaceful little place of 200 or so inhabitants, centred around small square dominated by the church of Panagia Evaggelismou. Vasa is a wine village - with two wineries in the village itself, and many others close by, There are several little cafes in the square, and two Tavernas which open in the evening.
I will act as host, provide shelter, tea, coffee, water etc., The day will start with a rendezvous at my house, where I’ll make sure everyone is comfortable, point out the main features of the village and ensure that everyone will be able to find their way around. You are then free to explore the village and see what inspires your creativity.
Around 12 we will gather for coffee at a local cafe, then go back to the house for a break and some social time. Then there’s time to go and explore again.
We will have a closing coffee and debriefing around 2.45. Toilet facilities are available both at my house and in the centre of the village. The house will be available during the day if you want to take a break, rest or just have social time.
Costs
This event is free of charge. All you need to do is make sure you can get to the village - probably ride-sharing in a couple of cars - for the start time. My motivation for doing this is to encourage new visitors to the village after the wildfires - all I ask is that you have a coffee in local cafe and/or buy something - a drink or snack - from the local shop. If you have an specific dietary requirements, you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
You will need to bring:
Your own camera, sketching or painting supplies, any specific non-caffeinated drinks you might require, and some good walking shoes - the village centre is cobbled and some of the outlying tracks are quite rough. Don’t forget a sun hat and sunscreen!
