The art of work

Facilitation

“Pete handled the very sensitive and complex dynamics within the group with great skill, ensuring that everyone felt that their contribution was valued and included. I look forward to working with him again in the future”.

A well facilitated Awayday or discussion session is a truly democratic thing. Everyone gets to join in, their opinion is heard and noted, and the whole group benefits from having a neutral but objective indvidual to keep things running smoothly.

My experience of working with groups is extensive - local authority officer groups talking about local area agreements, mental health user groups discussing responses to health agendas, staff groups discussing and resolving greivances, groups of entrepreneurs discussing creative strategy, regeneration agencies undertaking stakeholder analysis, management committees discussing critical priorities.

I work with the group to define the agenda, devise a plan for the day, ensuring that it is well paced, driven by interesting questions and visual planning exercises, and geared to the needs of the group as a whole.

Where possible we use a neutral venue with good facilities and catering, good transport connections and parking.

I undertake to record the day - as a text report, with photographic documentation of flips and visual exercises, and where appropriate, audio.

Often the whole project involves a number of sessions - with developmental work being undertaken in the spaces between - with a regional strategy or organisational development plan as the outcome.
